2 Painted Tree

Because the tree colors were mixed with the sky color, the tree has a subdued feel to it. Mix more Cerulean Blue into the tree palette. Using the ¼-inch (6mm) flat, paint in the leaves of the tree.

3Painting a Sky Wash

Thin the sky color from step 1 with water and apply it over the painting in thin washes to give it the fog look.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Notice how the background trees are pushed back using fog, which accents the vultures and the dead tree in the foreground. In the final painting, Phthalo Blue washes were applied to deepen the overall feel of the painting. The foreground elements are advanced forward in the painting by increasing the contrast and using brighter and deeper colors in contrast with the more muted background colors.
